2 Chronicles 1: 10 “Give me wisdom and knowledge” God’s guidance for Caregivers

2 Chronicles 1: 10 “Give me wisdom and knowledge” God’s guidance for Caregivers.

Caregivers scripture – 1 Corinthians 13:  4-7 Love is patient, love is kind……

What are attributes for caregivers? How the bible lays our foundation to be a good caregiver.

Love 1 Corinthians 13: 4 -7
Love this patient, love is kind, it does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self seeking, is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres

The Lord has blessed me greatly in being both a patient and a caregiver; I can tell you with all truth you would be hard-pressed to explain which one is easier. I have done much praying and pacing the floor trying to look for God’s guidance.  It seems like there must be a scripture that would sum up my frustration and point my mind in the right direction, giving strength and confidence that I’m making the right choices.

My wife and I have had the challenge and pleasure of caring for my Mom, who has severe dementia along with   no control of both her bowels and bladder. Mom is 27 years older than me and I’m the youngest of 3 boys so much for history. When you assume the responsibility to be someone’s caregiver it reminds me of a male spider having to strum the right cords to the female spider and if you don’t strum the right notes you are the next meal, this may seem extreme, but let me explain. You now have to be their protection from themselves, family, friends, and doctors etc.  On the other side of the coin you also have to be a cheer leader to get them motivated enough to want to survive and grow, and you have to be concerned for your mate and their health.  Somewhere in this long line of everyone else’s feeling, there lurking in the background is you.  Are you growing or dying?

God answered my prayers and I realized the answer is the same answer for caregivers, or if you’re the patient facing cancer or health difficulties.

What are attributes for caregivers?

v  Love.

v  Wisdom.

v  Patience.

v  Fair and balanced scales.

v  Strength.

v  Compassion.

v  Justice.

v  Understanding.

v  Not self seeking (what’s in it for me).

v  Many Counselors.

v  Love of learning, from God’s Holy living Word.

Undoubtedly you could come up with more, but let start with these and see how God’s Holy Word addresses what a Cancer patient or caregiver needs, to be content with making the right decisions.

Love 1 Corinthians 13: 4 -7

Love is patient, love is kind, it does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self seeking, is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

There are many scriptures concerning love 1 Corinthians  4 – 7 has a lot to say about the attributes of love as I’ve read this Scripture many times I’m always aware of how I fall short. As a caregiver Love is a huge component. The truth of the Scripture resonates; to be a good caregiver you must do it out of love. You will be tested, over and over again and I recommend this Scripture to be in front of you, it will center you and remind you of why you’re trying to help the person that you love.
