Faith that “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” – Philippians 4: 13
Faith – When your best friend is your caregiver – facing cancer & health problems
Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. James 1: 12 – Faith that guides you!
Genesis 1:29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every plant bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, which has seed in its fruit; to you it shall be for food. My effort in stopping my immune system from killing me goes back to God’s Holy Word and what he created to support our life.
It’s been five months since I posted in the category, the “Journey is Mine Life” after having dodged the bullet a (Lou Gehrig’s disease). Now two different doctors feel, that it’s possibly Pananeoplastic Neurological Syndrome, I find it amazing that there are so many different diseases, that you have never heard the names of before, that it sounds so alien to you. Unfortunately, most people begin to learn too much about their disease. For the last two years I’ve been under a great deal of pain in my bones, joints and tendons. I was fortunate, that when I first started, it seemed to diminish, after a while. Now since March it has done nothing but intensify. The pain is so much that there is no way to go to sleep at night. That it is totally uncomfortable. It hurts in any position that you’re at, and doesn’t allow you to sleep. Going to bed has become a real nightmare, where some people look forward to laying down and resting at night. I tend to look at it with fear.
My post on May 9, 2012; “What to do when you have catastrophic news?” Still applies very much. Anyone who has gone through bad news concerning their health, whether it is cancer or serious health problems, understands that you have to mount the defense of it. If you want to feel sorry for yourself, then all the agony fear and pain will overtake you. You must be positive, you must have faith in your God, you must pray for guidance and look for wise counsel and most of all, the best thing to do is write out a plan of what action are you going to take to heal your body.
Pananeoplastic Neurological Syndrome, to put it in layman’s terms is a disease (my understanding) where your immune system is sensing another cancer, sometimes months before the cancer can be detected and instead of fighting the cancer, it fights all your nerves by destroying them, this is what they feel is causing the pain for me. I guess I must be a simple person. If you think, all you have to do is figure out how do you make your immune system know that your a friend and how to increase the health of your immune system. Problem; as I search for answers on the immune system, I come up with all sorts of people trying to sell their miracle cure, searching for medical data seems to be sparse.
I am a visual person and always put my thoughts down on paper. I’m very fortunate to have my Wife that not only supports me but helps in the planning. My immune systems seems to be trying to kill me, the chart show why I start with the cell and my thoughts on cleansing them. If possible put your thoughts down on paper they are a tremendous help when looking back at why you do certain things.
I have had several days to think since starting to write this post, several thoughts have dominated my mind.
1) Faith: Without faith all your plans are meaningless. Faith is the glue that holds everything together. This morning while I was in-between awake and sleeping the scripture “I can do all things thru Christ who strengthens me”, Philippians 4: 13 continued being repeated over and over in my mind.
Think about what the Scripture means. Jesus said to his disciples several times that God the Father is in him and he is in the Father just like Jesus will dwell in you if you love him and keep his commands.
John Calvin said in his dissertation “I can do all things,” says he, “but it is in Christ, not by my own power, for it is Christ that supplies me with strength.” Hence we infer, that Christ will not be less strong and invincible in us also, if, conscious of our own weakness, we place reliance upon his power alone. When he says all things, he means merely those things which belong to his calling.
Albert Barnes wrote – I can do all things. From the experience which Paul had in these various circumstances of life, he comes here to the general conclusion that he could “do all things.” He could bear any trial, perform any duty, subdue any evil propensity of his nature, and meet, all the temptations incident to any condition of prosperity or adversity. His own experience in the various changes of life had warranted him in arriving at this conclusion; and he now expresses the firm confidence that nothing would be required of him which he would not be able to perform. In Paul, this declaration was not a vain self-reliance, nor was it the mere result of his former experience. He knew well where the strength was to be obtained by which to do all things, and on that arm that was able to uphold him he confidently relied.
Faith for me at this point is faith that God will use this web site, to help other s since this web site is directed to people who are going thru cancer or health problems or their caregivers who need him. Their Faith and my Faith are being tested or as one would say being refined by fire.
Faith is also that God will guide me in what I should do to regain my health thus allowing me to help more people.
2) Last night before going to bed I read a scripture that was given to me by a doctor whose wife was going thru cancer surgery on her spinal column; our conversation was in reference to my wife’s surgery that had gone wrong this year.
James 1: 2-8 and verse 12
Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance, perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asked, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; he is double minded man, unstable in all that he does.
12 Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.
Faith must be the starting point and permeate any plans that we create. Praying to God for wisdom and guidance and believing in that guidance is a must if we are to persevere with faith.
