Pancreatic Cancer about to become second leading killer among the Cancers
Pancreatic Cancer about to move from 4th leading cancer to second.
News from PanCan, a report stating the horrible news that pancreatic cancer is set to become the SECOND greatest killer among the cancers. It is currently fourth.
The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network has released a special report called, The Alarming Rise of Pancreatic Cancer Deaths in the United States: Why We Need to Stem the Tide Today. This report was written by the organization’s Research and Scientific Affairs team, led by our Vice President of Scientific and Medical Affairs Lynn Matrisian, PhD.
The alarming findings presented in the report include the fact that by the year 2020, and possibly as early as 2015, pancreatic cancer will move from the fourth leading cause of cancer death to the second leading cause of cancer death in the United States.
This nation has built an impressive record for substantially improving public health, much of which can be traced back to focused efforts on bolstering medical research. In years past, the National Institutes of Health has devoted considerable attention and resources to attacking a variety of major health problems. As a result, many lives have been saved and improved.
This is the sort of effort necessary to stem the tide of pancreatic cancer deaths. But doing so requires a comprehensive, long-term plan of action. Passage of the Pancreatic Cancer Research & Education Act would create this plan of action and serve as an important step toward identifying new pathways to success for treating this difficult disease. In addition, we need to continue our comprehensive efforts to fight pancreatic cancer. We need to continue to advance research, support patients and create hope. It is more important than ever that people get involved with our efforts to change the course of history for the alarming rise of pancreatic cancer deaths in the United States.
